Hibiscus Flower Simple Syrup

Easy to make simple syrup with dried hibiscus flowers. The hibiscus imparts a subtle tart taste and a beautiful pink jewel hue that will certainly enhance your next cocktail or beverage of choice.

To make the simple syrup:

1/2 cup of granulated sugar

1/2 cup water

1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers - Available in most supermarkets or specialty food stores.

In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients and stir until the sugar dissolves. Place the sauce pan on medium heat until it reaches a boil. Reduce the heat and allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes and then turn off the heat. The syrup will thicken as it cools. Place cooled syrup in a small glass jar or bottle. It will keep for 5 days in the refrigerator.

Refreshing gin cocktail - serves 1

Place 2oz of gin, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of the hibiscus simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for a minute or two. Pour into a pretty glass and garnish with a raspberry or strawberry. Cheers!
